As a veteran of the United State Army, Mr. Rheams served during World War II, earning the Victory Ribbon, three overseas service bars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with one bronze star, a bronze arrowhead Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation (Japan) Ribbon. Romagosa, a priest of the Archdiocese New Orleans for more than 50 years, died Sunday of injuries sustained in a car accident in Raceland. He was 75. He was born in Thibodaux and lived in the New Orleans area for many years before moving to Waveland, Miss., last year. Msgr. Romagosa attended St. Joseph Seminary College in Covington and Notre Dame Seminary. He was ordained in 1947. Early in his career he served parishes in Cut Off and New Orleans and was chaplain at Ursuline Convent and Academy. In 1962 he became the founding editor of the Clarion Herald, the Archdiocesan newspaper. He held the position for 12 years while at the same time serving as pastor and administrator in St. John the Baptist parish and later at Holy Trinity Church. He was former pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church and St. Clement of Rome parish in Metairie where he oversaw the construction of a new parish church and was named a Prelate of Honor (August, 1980). Msgr. Romagosa was appointed Port Chaplain (1984-88) and Director of the Apostleship of the Sea (1984-89), saying Masses in several languages. In 1988 he became pastor of Infant Jesus of Prague Church in Harvey where he remained until his retirement in 1998. He was previously national secretary of the Catholic Broadcasters Association, president of the National Catholic Conference Seafarers, Assistant Director and, later Director of the Propagation of the Faith, Director of the Archdiocesan Cursillo Movement, Member of the Archdiocesan Liturgical Commission, Chaplain to the Catholic Daughters of America, Chaplain to the Catholic Physicians' Guild of N.O., Chaplain to the Knights of Columbus Councils, and Archdiocesan Chaplain to the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. He was a Spiritual Director on many pilgrimages. He was named Monsignor in 1980. He received several Catholic Press Association awards for photography. A volume of his photography was published in 1997 on the 50th anniversary of his ordination. Dr. Bixenman was a veteran of military service having served in the United States Army Air Force. He received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, in 1951 and was founder of the Bixenman Chiropractic Clinic. Dr. Bixenman practiced in Sunset and Church Point prior to moving to Lafayette in 1956 and practiced in Lafayette until the time of his death. Dr. Bixenman was a member of the World Chiropractic Assoc., past president of the South Central La. Chiropractic Society and a founding member of the Chiropractic Assoc. of La. He was named Chiropractor of the Year by the Chiropractic Assoc. of La. in 1980. He cared for many people during his journey through life. His profession, his family and his wife of 50 years were the loves that he lived from each and every day. Being a chiropractor was a passion of his that allowed him to meet and touch people by opening his heart to every soul he helped heal. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was one that he always put first by offering his unconditional comfort and security to them. He was a well respected man because of his willingness to go out of his way to do things for people. Most of all, he was a man of admiration and principle who always stood up for what he believed in. Mr. LeBlanc had been a member of the 101st Airborne Division, serving as Master Sergeant in the 327th Glider Infantry. He received the following awards, the Good Conduct Medal, two Presidential Unit Citations with Oak Leaf Cluster, four Major Battle Stars, one Arrow Head, The French Croix De Guerre and a Belgian Croix De Guerre, being the highest awards given by both France and Belgium. He was a native of Ville Platte and returned to Ville Platte after his retirement. Mr. Reed earned a B.S. in Agriculture from S.L.I. in Lafayette and his Master's of Education degree from L.S.U. in Baton Rouge. He lived in Basile for 30 years, where he taught Agriculture at Basile High School. Mr. Reed retired in 1973 after 40 years in the work he loved - educating and shaping young people. While in Basile, Mr. Reed was an active member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church community, in which he served as an usher for many years. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, became a fourth degree knight, and served as Grand Knight from 1953 to 1955. While in Ville Platte, "Dad" was able to devote time to helping others by visiting patients at Humana Hospital for five years, until his health failed. His faith and his Church were very previous to him, and he spent time enriching that faith in Bible Study classes. His family was the center of his life, and he was happiest when he was with his wife and children. His great wit and sense of humor will be missed by all, but his example of love and family values will live on his family and all those whose lives he touched. Survivors include: his wife of 63 years, Mabel V. She graduated from Pollock High School and Louisiana State Normal College. Mrs. Fletcher taught school for 43 years and she was a Dean of Women at Acadia Academy. She also taught Sunday School classes for 32 years. Mrs. Fletcher was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star. A member of many state and national teacher organizations and a member of the First Baptist Church of Opelousas at her death. Survivors include: a son, Verne K. Fletcher Jr. of Church Point and her daughter-in-law, Joycelyn Young Fletcher; two sisters, Gertrude Hamilton and Mertie Marie Fort, both of Shreveport; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
