Mr. Daly, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lafayette for 25 years, died Tuesday, August 31, 1999, in Lafayette General Medical Center. He was employed by Ocean Energy Inc. Mr. Daly was a member of St. Pius X Catholic community and had been a youth baseball and basketball coach and a Boy Scout troop leader. Marvella Chavis Ms Marvella Chavis died August 22, 1999, surrounded by her mother, Irene Chavis of Opelousas, and two of her sisters, Marie Siltanise Ausberry of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Donn Olia Johannes of Eden Prairie, Minn., and her niece, Andrea Ausberry of Oakland. In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Patricia English of Opelousas and Theresa Kinnard of Houston, Texas, a brother Samuel Chavis Jr. of Opelousas. She is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Chavis and brother Huey P. Chavis. She will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, especially by her "adopted children", niece Alexia Ausberry of San Francisco and nephew Gregory Clark of Eden Prairie, Minn. A psychiatric technician at S.F. General Hospital on the Black Focus Unit, she was active in both the social and political arena. Alvin Luther Pitre Sr., 80, will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Drive in Houston, Texas, with burial at the Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Pitre died in Houston, Texas, on Friday, Sept. 3, 1999. Mr. Pitre was born in Plaisance and was a veteran of WWII (10th Station Hospital) and the Korean War (25th Infantry Division). During his 24 years of service, he received numerous commendations and medals such as the Combat Medical Badge and the Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars. Upon retirement from the service, he worked for Cotton Brothers' Bakery in Alexandria for 19 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Pitre and Emily Guillory Pitre, his brothers Paul and Leon and his sister Mary. Survivors include: his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Emily McAlorum Pitre of Bangor, Northern Ireland; one son, Alvin Pitre Jr. and daughter-in-law, Sue M. Pitre; his granddaughter Sarah E. Pitre; three daughters, Margaret E. He went to work in August 1959 and retired in August 1999 with the Homestead. Mr. Cormier was the Senior Board Member on the Board of Directors and at the time of his retirement because of his health he was a Loan Officer and The Executive Vice President of the St. Landry Homestead Federal Saving Bank. Sister Angela Carey, a Marianite of Holy Cross for more than 60 years, died at 12:12 a.m. Monday, September 27, 1999, in Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas. She was born in New York City on August 16, 1915. Sister Carey entered the Marianites in July of 1935, pronounced her first vows on May 21, 1937, and made final profession on August 11, 1940. After her first year of ministry at Precigne, France, Sister Angela was sent to a French Hospital in New York City and three years later to study nursing at St. Catherine's Hospital in Brooklyn. She then served for over 25 years at two hospitals: St. Joseph's, Lac Megantic, Canada and Notre Dame de Ste Croix, Mont Laurier, Canada. In the early 1970's Sister worked at Lake Providence and Opelousas General Hospitals in Louisiana. In 1973 Sr. Angela retired to Our Lady of Princeton, Princeton, New Jersey, where she rendered community service until her move to Our Lady of Holy Cross and then to Prompt Succor Nursing Home in 1994. He attended Tulane Medical School and graduated in 1944. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Dr. Pavy was married in New Orleans in December of 1945 while a Captain in the Army. Subsequent to his discharge from the service, he practiced medicine in Lutcher, for a short period. Dr. Pavy practiced medicine in New Orleans until 1969 when he gave up his practice and became the doctor in charge of the emergency room at Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. He remained at the Southern Baptist Hospital until his retirement several years ago. Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie Williams Pavy of Metairie; his daughters and sons-in-law, John and Peggy Grey of Clearwater, Fla., and Parker and Sue Davis of Atlanta, Ga.; his son and daughter-in-law, Albert B.
