Mrs. Bertrand, a resident of Port Barre, died at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, 2000, in Doctors' Hospital of Opelousas. She worked at J.W. Low's Department Store for 22 years. Survivors include: two daughters, Dorothy Aymond of Port Barre and Betty Artigue of Prairieville; two brothers, Joe A. Courville of New Iberia and Nolan Courville of Lafayette; a sister, Virley Marks of LaPlace; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren. The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services. Mrs. Bourque, a resident of Opelousas, died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday, February 3, 2000, in Doctors' Hospital of Opelousas. Mrs. Bourque, a native of Naples, Italy, and a teacher in Italy, was a resident of Opelousas since 1948. She met her husband when she was in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was an interpreter (for he was able to speak Cajun French) and when the Army Unit moved from N. Africa into Sicily, and Italy where the unit was when the War ended. She and her sister needed gas for heating and cooking and when they asked the soldiers for help no one could understand them and when she asked if anyone could speak French (Which is what she taught in school) she was told that Mr. Bourque was the only one able to speak French. He did help them out and they were most appreciative of the Soldier getting them the gas. The war ended and he returned to Opelousas. They kept in touch and he asked her to marry him in a letter. Two years after the war he returned to Italy and married Clelia and they moved to Opelousas, where she became a citizen of the United States. She was a devoted wife and homemaker until her death. He has been a resident of Lafayette since 1959. Mr. Fontenot was a self-made engineer and worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as a soils engineer in the highway department's lab in Lafayette until his retirement in 1972. Mr. Fontenot began his career in 1930 as an inspector for the DODT. He also worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad and became a real estate broker in 1976. Mr. Fontenot was a past president and board member of the Louisiana Retirees Association and was past president of the Lafayette Chapter. He was honored in 1996 by the governor for outstanding service to the retirees of the state. He was a member of the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Community and was a past member of the Knight of Columbus. In 1980 he became pastor of St. Anthony in Eunice until he became administrator of Annunciation in Duralde in 1984. In 1985 he was pastor of Our Lady Queen of All Saints in Ville Platte until he became pastor of Assumption of the BVM Church in Mire in 1989 until his death. As a hypnotherapist and a marriage and family counselor, Dana completed extensive educational training which included competed certification for Ericksonian Clinical Hypnosis as a certified Clinical Hypnotherapist with a specialization in addiction; competed certification for Moral Reconation Therapy as a certified MRT therapist; certified mediation counselor for Domestic and Commercial Mediation with Settlement Consultants, Inc. of Dallas, Texas; and had also completed her certification for HIV Serological Counseling and Partner Notification Training which is provided by US Dept. of Health and Hospital Services, Centers of Disease Control. Dana's professional associations included her membership and current training to transfer to supervisor status of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy; membership of the Louisiana Association of Marriage and Family Therapy; and in 1989 received lifetime membership of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Ella Rose Stelly (Pic) PORT BARRE - Funeral services for Mrs. Ella Rose Stelly, 61, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church here with burial in the old church mausoleum. Mrs. Stelly, a resident of Port Barre, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, February 27, 2000, in Opelousas General Hospital. She was a retired file clerk and receptionist with Opelousas General Hospital for many years. Mrs. Stelly died on the anniversary of her marriage (46 years). Survivors include: two sons, Riley James Stelly of Arnaudville and Leroy Joseph Stelly Sr. of Port Barre; two daughters, Mrs. Glenda S. Moreau of Opelousas and Mrs. Donna Fontenot of Port Barre; four brothers, Elrick Taylor Jr. of Holly Beach, Leo Taylor of Port Barre, Murnest Taylor of Pecaniere and Albert Taylor of Arnaudville; four sisters, Doresa Stelly, Annette Hebert and Earline Thibodeaux, all of Arnaudville, and Lolena Cueves of Mississippi; her father, Elrick Taylor Sr. of Arnaudville; her companion of many years, Eustache Lormand Sr. of Arnaudville; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Stelly was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Stelly; a brother, Alex Taylor Sr.; and her mother, Marcelite Taylor. Pallbearers will be Leroy Stelly Jr., Brent Charles Menard, Joey Lance Fontenot, Leroy Stelly Sr., James Vincent Stelly and Gregory Jacob Stelly. Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. today until time of services on Tuesday.
