Sister Breaux, M. S. C. a Marianite of the Holy Cross, died on Friday, July 21 at 1:58 a.m. at St. Claude Medical Center. She was a native of Houma and entered the Marianites of the Holy Cross at Our Lady of Sorrows Chapel at Holy Angels in New Orleans in 1931. Sister Paul pronounced her first vows in 1933 and made final profession in 1936. She was an educator honored by her many students. Sister Paul taught in elementary schools in Franklin, St. Ceclia, Sts. Peter and Paul, Holy Name of Mary and Incarnate Word in New Orleans and in high schools in Morgan City, Eunice, Franklin, Houma, Ville Platte and Holy Name of Mary in New Orleans. From 1969 to 1973 she served as principal at the Opelousas at Academy of the Immaculate Conception and continued teaching high school at Hanson Memorial High in Franklin until 1986 when she retired at St. John Covent in Franklin. Sister Paul relocated to New Orleans in 1991. There she continued in retirement praying for the needs of the community but still actively visiting family and friends. Ms. Richard, the former Mabel Colomb, died at 10:20 p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 2000 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. She was a native of Prairie Basse, a former resident of Sunset and a resident of Grand Coteau for most of her life. Survivors include: a daughter, Jacqueline Marie Richard Johnson of Sunset; two sisters, Eva Colomb Taylor and Rose Colomb Williams, both of Grand Coteau; four grandchildren, Shaterral Latrice Johnson, Shameka Lavonne Johnson, Saderia Lakel Johnson, Surlay Lavel Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Anasia Malveaux and Lamar Armad Miller; and two nephews, she reared as her sons, Gerald Colomb of Houston, Texas, and Patrick Richard of Carencro. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Roy Richard; her parents, Joseph Colomb and the former Mary Louise Richard; seven brothers; and two sisters. Visitation is 4-10 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to time of service Monday at Melancon Funeral Home of Grand Coteau. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
