Mrs. Scroggs, a resident of Loreauville and a native of Edgerly, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2001, in Sunset from injuries sustained in an auto accident. She was a member of a local New Iberia Supper club, a member of the Peace By Piece Quilting Club of Loreauville; Treasurer of the Noon Rotary Club of Opelousas; the first woman President of the Rotary Club of New Iberia; a former Alderwoman in Loreauville; a Classified Manager for the Daily Iberian in New Iberia from January 1972 to April 1997 and Classified Manager of the Daily World in Opelousas from April 1997 to present. Survivors include: mother Letha Ritta Moore of Loreauville; two daughters, Kyla David and husband Derek of Lafayette and Tara Jones of Loreauville; two sons, Judd Scroggs and wife Mary Katherine of Macon, Ga., and Frank Scroggs and wife Kristy of Slidell; two brothers, Billy Moore of Sulphur and Joey Moore of Austin, TX.; and six grandchildren, Franklin Scroggs and Rebekkah Scroggs, both of Slidell, Casey, Trace and Zachary David, all of Lafayette, and Brittanie Scroggs of New Iberia. John Vincent died at 8:40 a.m. June 30, 2001 at his residence in Opelousas. He was born on July 27, 1926 in Gueydan and was a resident of Opelousas for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and received the Victory Medal. He was a member of American Legion Post #45 and VFW Post #2483. He was a retired electronic technician with Schlumberger. After retirement, he became an Audiologist and opened Opelousas Hearing Aid Center. He was very proud of his service and enjoyed helping people. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy S. Vincent of Opelousas; two sons, Bradley K. Vincent and his wife Sherry of Opelousas, Father R. Eloise encouraged those she knew to excel-to be active, to reach for higher ideals, and great goals. She understood life-stressing the importance and duty to do the right things. Eloise was steadfast in her beliefs and practiced what she preached. She always had a project, something to do for others. Anytime she believed that she could help someone, she took pleasure in doing so, even if it meant that she had to go out of her way. Eloise saw the beauty in life and the goodness in people because that was her view of the world and people. Finally, she was a wise and caring person-someone everyone was lucky to have known. Her role as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother occurred over a span of 66 years. She also served as surrogate mother to her many nieces and nephews. "Miss Kate" owned and operated a beauty salon for over 30 years and reluctantly retired at 80 years of age.
