In every phase of the workings of the Opelousas Garden Club, she was prominent. Her endeavors on the part of the Yambilee Flower Show have been evident for many years. This was one of her special projects in addition to other aspects of the festival. Mrs. Doucet's floral designs won first place at state show competitions. For years, she served as a delegate to state conventions of garden clubs and attended winter and summer board meetings. Blue ribbons, tricolors, creativity, all the top awards for accomplished designers in flower show competition, were awarded to Mrs. Doucet on many occasions. Mrs. Doucet worked on the courthouse grounds, caring for the Blue Star marker that was placed there in homage to servicemen. The Cleanest City Contest and the one time award-winning entrance to the cities contest, were aided in their efforts through the Garden Club. She alone, single-handedly landscaped the location of the Jim Bowie Tourist Center at the old site along La. 167. For the 250th anniversary of Opelousas, Mrs. Doucet was in charge of the transformation of city hall into a reception and appropriate setting to the opening of the activities. The hand of Mrs. Doucet was also seen at the Flower and Antique Show where the readying of the Old Boagni House for this event was a major undertaking. Along with her Garden Club work, she was involved with the Bal Masque. Mrs. Doucet was coordinator of the Duchesses and Court for years, and was the driving force of the King's committee. The Debutante Tea was given many times in the Doucet home and many and many an Opelousas girl experienced the hospitality of Mrs. Doucet. When Mr. Eldridge Schwartzenburg, King of the Bal Masque, had as his queen, Mrs. Doucet, many of the audience recognized her as one of the primary leaders in the staging of this extravaganza. Mrs. Doucet was a member of the St. Landry Catholic Church, and was a strong supporter of the Catholic school. The Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Prompt Succor Nursing Home (her special project), the Elks Auxiliary, 4-H Club and many other local organizations were beneficiaries of her willingness to give of herself. Mrs. Doucet was inducted into the Louisiana Federation of Garden Clubs Circle of Roses in 1996, and was the Opelousas Garden Club's first Edna Kurtz Award. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1998 by the Opelousas-St. Landry Chamber of Commerce.
