Services were conducted by Father Andrus. Castille died at 7:40 p.m., August 30, 2001, at Lafayette General Hospital. She was a housewife, a native of Carencro and a resident of Sunset. Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Valerie C. Caillier of Lafayette and Command Sergeant Major Roxanne Hope and husband, Ron, of Pomaria, S.C.; two sons, Lenox Castille and wife, Janet, of Lafayette, and Gregory Castille and wife, Sue, of Opelousas; and one brother, Robert Yarbro of Baton Rouge; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Thistlethwaite was discharged in 1946 and his duty included two years in Southwest Pacific. After his discharge, he received a law degree from LSU and practiced law in Opelousas with the firm of Andrus and Thistlethwaite until the 1950s. He then served as business manager at the Daily World, a newspaper founded by his brother, John R. Thistlethwaite Jr. Mr. Thistlethwaite worked there for 17 years, then he returned to the practice of law with his son, Hugh Jr. until his retirement. Mr. Thistlethwaite was the past President of the Opelousas Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Opelousas St. Landry Parish Red Cross and President of the Louisiana Press Association. He was a member of the Humble Cottage Masonic Lodge, the Rotary Club, the Elks and Delta Kappa Epislon Fraternity. He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 where he was a member of the 991st Engineer Treadway Bridge Co. that included the Normandy, France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns during World War III, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart by Lt. General Patton. He was discharged in 1945. After his military discharge, he worked as a heavy equipment operator until 1952 when he founded his own construction company, Wilson Kimble Contractors, Inc., located in Baton Rouge. He served as a hands on president of his company until his retirement in 1995. Mr. Kimble was a member of the VFW Post 10030, Melville; a past auxiliary deputy sheriff with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office; President of Wilson Kimble Contractors; president of Midway Hunting Club and other various organizations. A member of the Pilot Club, Delta-Kappa-Gamma Sorority and the St. Landry Parish Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Whipp was a teacher for 36 years, teaching in Delcambre, New Iberia High School and Opelousas High School. After her retirement, she was a volunteer at Lawtell Elementary School in the computer lab. He was a resident of Washington for more than 50 years, where he owned and operated Ardoin's Grocery with his wife, Bea Ardoin, for more than 30 years. Bea Ardoin passed away January 15, 2001. Mr. Ardoin was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1988.
