The former Viola Pecot, a native of Charenton, was the daughter of the late Bernadette Wolford Pecot and George Pecot. She is survived by her niece, Carolyn Shimek; several grandnieces; and a grandnephew. Sister Pecot entered the Marianites in 1926, made temporary vows in 1928 and perpetual vows in 1931. After teaching elementary school in Franklin, Ocean Springs, Miss., and Eunice as well as at Holy Name of Mary, Holy Angels, and St. Cecilia in New Orleans, she taught high school at Holy Angels and in Plaquemine, Opelousas, Lake Charles, Morgan City and Algiers. Sister Pecot worked on the library staff at Our Lady of Holy Cross College and at Holy Name of Mary School. She retired to Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in 1970 where she fulfilled the ministry of sacristan both at the convent and at Holy Spirit Parish. For nine years, Sister Pecot worked in adult education and also tutored students of various ages and educational levels. In 1996, she moved to Prompt Succor Nursing Home where in August of 2001, surrounded by her family and friends, she celebrated the 75th anniversary of her religious profession. Sister Torian was born in Lafayette on March 12, 1932, to the late Edwin W. Torian and mother, Elia Voorhies Torian. She grew up in Lafayette and attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau. After graduation, she attended the University of Houston. She entered the Society of the Sacred Heart and made her first vows at Kenwood, Albany, N.Y. on March 19, 1956. She was professed in Rome, Italy on July 21, 1961. Sister Torian served at schools run by the order in Houston, Grand Coteau, St. Louis and New Orleans. For the past 13 years, she has taught religion at Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Houston. Love of scripture and liturgy, and love of young people characterized her life and spirituality. Her "joie de vivre" brightened the lives of those Tootise loved and served. She is survived by her mother, Elia V. Torian; and a brother, Edwin (Ned) Torian and wife Tommye of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by niece, Shelley Torian Barineau and husband John Newton Barineau IV, their children, Blake Edwin, William Lawrence, and Blair Elia, Houston, Texas; nephew, John David Torian, Austin, Texas; and niece, Drusilla Kristin Torian, Lake Forest, Ill.
