MRS. MENTOR ANDRUS

On Friday afternoon the soul of Mrs. Mentor Andrus, aged 72 years, a 
venerable old lady of this city, crossed beyond the Great Divide, at the 
home of her son, Hon. A. L. Andrus.

Mrs. Andrus, who had been a devoted mother and a faithful servant of God as 
long as she lived, had been suffering for several weeks. An operation was 
performed several days ago in New Orleans; she was under the care of the 
best specialists in the Crescent City, but all proved futile, as the old 
lady was too weak to suffer any more human tortures, death coming on Friday 
evening.

Mrs. Andrus was a native of this parish, having been born and reared in the 
Grand Coteau section. She leaves a large number of relatives and countless 
friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were conducted at the Catholic Church and interment was 
made in the Catholic cemetery. A large number of friends of the Andrus 
family were present to hear the beautiful eulogy delivered by Rev. Father 
Engberink, who stamped Mrs. Andrus as a model of his congregation, a devoted 
mother and a kind wife. He praised the deceased for her many good and 
sterling qualities as a Christian and prayed upon those present to follow in 
the footsteps of Mrs. Mentor Andrus.

Philomene Potier Andrus is buried in the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery 
located in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, LA. She was the daughter of Louis 
Potier and Virginie Guidry.
