Port Barre- A Mass of Christian Burial for Leonce Bellard, Sr., age 97, will 
be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2011 in the Sacred Heart Catholic 
Church of Port Barre, followed by interment in the church mausoleum. The 
Reverend Daniel Picard will celebrate the Mass.

Mr. Bellard, who was a native of Church Point and a lifelong resident of 
Port Barre, died at 5:35 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2011, in the Senior Village 
Nursing Home in Opelousas.

Leonce was a longtime truck driver for the Nichols Construction Company. He 
will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by four sons, Shelton Bellard of Port Barre, Hervy Bellard of 
Port Barre, Leonce Bellard, Jr. and wife Peggy of Winnie, TX and Dale 
Bellard of Durham, NC; a daughter, Mercy L. Higdon and husband Eli of Port 
Barre; a sister, Hazel Bihm and hurband Robert of Port Barre; 20 
grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Vina Venable Bellard; 
parents, Noah Bellard, Sr. and Azele Janise Bellard; two daughtes, Mary Ann 
Chaisson and Loyce Devillier; four brothers, Noah Bellard, Jr., Sidney 
Bellard, Isaac Bellard and Charles Bellard; two sisters, Mamie Daigle and 
Virginia Matte; daughter in law, Arlene Dale Cahanin Bellard, deceased wife 
of son Dale.

Visitation will be held in the Sibille Funeral Home of Port Barre beginning 
Sunday, May 22, 2011, from 3:00- 10:00 p.m. and will reopen on Monday at 
8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
