DIED. - At his residence, in Opelousas, on Sunday morning, Nov. 27, 1898, at 8:50, Dr. Vincent Boagni, aged 76 years and 16 days. Dr. Boagni's death was a surprise to the community, as it was not generally known that he was sick. He had been indisposed for some days, but on the morning of his death had gone in his garden for a walk. The first intimation that Death had delt the St. Landry millionaire the fatal blow was when he fell prosprate to the floor, face down and his hand to his heart; and, notwithstanding the kind ministrations of willing hands he was a corpse before medical assistance could reach him. It is believed that death did not come to him unexpectedly. Being a skilled physician, he was aware that he was effected with heart disease, and that he had reached a stage of life when his otherwise vigorous and well-preserved constitution could no longer combat the dreaded enemy. Dr. Boagni came to America from Finale, Sardinia, when a young man. After graduating in medicine in New Orleans, he settled in West Baton Rouge parish and practiced his profession. He came to St. Landry parish in 1848. He married Miss Sasan Littell, who had some $60,000, and this was the foundation for his fortune, which is estimated at $1,500,000. He was a wonderful financier, and gave personal attention to his enormous business interests. He leaves nine heirs, namely: E. M. Boagni, Vincent Boagni, Jos. M. Boagni, Dr. Chas. F. Boagni, Bee Boagni, Mrs. C. H. Comeau, Mrs. Ruth Walker, Mrs. M. C. Mosely, and the heirs Mrs. J. J. Thompson, (Mrs. Dr. Walker and Mrs. Dr. Compton.) He left no will, and the fortune will be divided equally among the heirs. His funeral, which took place at 2 o'clock Monday evening, was largely attended. A special train arrived in the morning, conveying Messrs. C. C. and W. W. Duson, of Crowley, and Mrs. Walker, of Lake Charles.
