Dennis Cannon, one of the pioneer settlers of the Eunice section and a well known citizen of the western St. Landry town, expired on Thursday morning of last week, at the age of seventy-one years and six months. The deceased was the father of John Cannon of this city, well known and popular employee of the A. C. Skiles Lumber Company. The deceased had many friends in Opelousas and surrounding country. The funeral services were held at the Eunice Mehtodist (sic) Church on Friday of last week, at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. 2nd Obituary: source: St. Landry Clarion. (Opelousas, La.) 1890-1921, December 13, 1919, Page 4, Image 4 W.D. Cannon, highly respected citizen of this parish, formerly a resident of Opelousas, died December 4 at his home in Eunice. He was 71 years of age. Mr. Cannon was the father of John Cannon, valued and well known employe (sic) of the A. C. Skiles Lumber Co., of this city. Besides John, the deceased is survived by several children, all of whom are well known in this city. Mr. Cannon's death resulted from a growth in his throat. A successful operation was performed, but his weakened condition could not withstand the strain.
