We are again called upon to announce the lamentable work of death in our midst. NATHAN MARION CHILDS, departed this life on Sunday, Febry. 19, 1893, at his residence in St. Landry, at Plaquemine Point. The deceased was born on the 23d of December A. D., 1820, in the city of Montgomery, in the state of Alabama. He has been a citizen of St. Landry for many years. his career was always that of an upright consciencious man. Of late years he was an ardent member of the Methodist E. Church, a worthy member of which he died, at the ripe age of 72 years, 2 months and 16 days. He had so lived that death had no terror. He was a practical christian. "The world recedes, it disappears! Heaven opens on his eyes ! his ears With sounds seraphic ring: Lend, lend your wings, he mounts - he flies. O grave where are thy victories? O death where is thy sting?" The death of a good man is always felt, because it is a loss to society, but it is great consolation to the bereaved family, to christian brethren and to surviving friends and acquaintances, to know that he set an example worthy to be followed. "Blessed are they, who their Savior obey, And have laid up their treasures above." T. S. R.
