Mrs. Emily Cochran Succumbs to Stroke of Apoplexy. Mrs. Emily Richard, a highly esteemed lady of our city, was stricken with apoplexy while partaking of the noon meal on last Saturday, and succumbed before medical assistance could reach her. She was boarding at her friend's, Mrs. R. E. Bodemuller, and while in conversation at the table with the people of the house, suddenly fell unconscious into the arms of young John Desmarais, who sat near her. The horrified friends rushed to her aid, but death occurred before they realized that anything unusual was happening. Deceased was the widow of the late W. R. Cochran, for many years city clerk of Opelousas, and a sister of Mr. T. S. Richard, of near Opelousas, and Mr. C. M. Richard, assessor of Calcasieu parish. The death of Mrs. Cochran was a shock to the entire community, not only on account of its suddenness, but on account of the high regard entertained for her by every one. The remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery on Sunday at 4 o'clock, followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Mrs. Cochran was 60 years, 10 months, and 19 days of age.
