Died, at the family residence, in Opelousas, on Friday night, December 22, 1911, ay 7:40 o'clock, Marie Elise, infant daughter of J. L. Comeau and Edith Leslie Pierson, aged 5 years, 6 months and 28 days. The murky clouds of Wednesday, December 20, told of gloom and cheerlessness, a dismal herald of the approaching day of the birth of the Christ Child. Unmindful of this wa(smudge) mother's love, that might (smudge) overcomes all woes; tha migh(smudge) that burns in sunshine or (smudge). That mother's heart th(smudge) for the little one, the suns(smudge) the home, who had been (smudge) her all about Santa Claus, and about Christ, and in all that rain the mother trod in mud and slush, procuring toys to gladden that little heart on the eventful day. There was no thought then in the mind of Mrs. J. L. Comeau, as she went about buying the toys for little Marie Elise, the only child, that these toys and other pretty things were destined to occupy some niche to only serve the purpose of feeding memory with thoughts of the darling one - that Death would be Santa Claus to Marie Elise even ere the bells chimed for the gladsome day. But such it was. Taken suddenly sick with croup Wednesday night, she joined the angel host Friday night, and the remains were interred in the Catholic cemetery Saturday evening at 3:30 o'clock. Little Marie Elise was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Comeau. Bright, talkative, a perfect "little lady," she was the idol of her parents' hearts, and the little friend of all who knew her. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved parents. St. Landry Clarion. (Opelousas, La.) 1890-1921, January 06, 1912, page 2, Image 2 In Memoriam The transition of darling little Marie Elise Comeau, lovely and bright little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Comeau of this city overwhelmed an otherwise happy home at this joyous Yuletide with grief and despair. Scarcely five years have elapsed since this bright and charming little sprite came from realms eternal to gladden the hearts of loving parents and now alas! too soon she has been recalled to her heavenly home. There from that house, not made with hands, may she guide their earthly pilgrimage, and when they enter the life eternal may their sorrow be changed to everlasting joy. X.
