Death of Mr. Etienne Couleau.

Mr. Etienne Couleau died at his residence, near Ville Platte, on Saturday 
evening, at 2 o'clock, aged 88 years. The remains were interred in the Ville 
Platte cemetery on Monday morning at 10 o'clock.

In the death of this estimable, much-beloved old gentleman that section of 
the parish loses one of its oldest citizens, and the town of Ville Platte 
its pioneer merchant; all of which, however, pales as the candle light pales 
and loses itself in its own shadow in the light of heaven's great orb when 
compared to the loss sustained by his loved ones here on earth.

Mr. Couleau came to Ville Platte in his early manhood from Bordeaux, France, 
and has lived there ever since. He established one of the first stores in 
Ville Platte, which he has continually run until about a year ago, when on 
account of age's transgressions on mind and body, he was forced by 
solicitous relatives to reluctantly close his life of activity.

His thrift had been rewarded by a comfortable portion of this world's good, 
the major part of which, however, he apportioned among his heirs some time 
ago.

He is the grandfather of Mrs. R. Lee Wiggins, of Opelousas, and of Prof. E. 
E. Ortago, principal of the Ville Platte High School, and of Dr. Ludeau, and 
the father of Mrs. Jules Ludeau, of Ville Platte.

The Clarion extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Ville Platte, Evangeline Parish, LA.
