Joseph Ducoudraie D'Avy

Died, at 6:30 p. m., at the family residence, near Opelousas, Joseph 
Ducoudraie D'Avy, aged 54 years, 4 months and 19 days. The funeral was held 
Saturday evening with services at the Catholic church and interment in the 
Catholic cemetery.

Mr. D'Avy's death was very sudden and he was stricken while engaged at work. 
A short while before his demise he was building a chimney at the home of 
Sheriff Fontenot, on the Washington road. Apparently in the best of health, 
the Grim Reaper knocked at his door. In the full possession of his 
faculties, he felt the stroke coming and called to an assistant to help him, 
within a few moments the hand of death was on him and he was taken to his 
home nearby in a speechless condition. He never revived but quietly passed 
to the beyond.

The deceased was a native of this city and has resided here all his life. 
Quiet and unassuming, he followed his trade and was known far and wide as an 
honest and industrious man. His untimely demise will leave a vacant place in 
his household as well as in the hearts of his many associates. He leaves a 
family and many relatives, and to these the Clarion extends its condolences 
in this hour of their greatest trial.

Joseph Ducoudraie D'Avy was the son of Yves D'Avy and Clara Lamorandiere. 
He is buried in the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery located in Opelousas, 
St. Landry Parish, LA.
