After months of patient suffering, the spirit of Arthur Dejean has gone to rest. Perhaps no man in Opelousas was more universally esteemed than the deceased. Affable, honest, charitable, true to friends and devoted to parents, his lost is an irreparable one. For twelve years he was city marshal of Opelousas, and before ill-health sapped the vitality from his sturdy body, he was at all times alert in the discharge of his duties; brave and conscientious. He leaves a mother and two brothers, and a host of relatives and friends, to whom the Clarion extends its heartlfelt sympathy. Additional Comments: NOTE: Joseph Arthur Dejean was the son of Antoine Dejean and Eulalie Roy. He was born 16 October 1851.
