One by one, the old gray-haired veterans are called upon to cross the 
dividing line between this world and the world beyond. Not many more years 
will have passed away, before the last one who wore the gray, shall have 
been called to appear before the Lord of hosts. And blessed is he who can 
say with the Psalmist, :The Lord is my sheppard - yea, though I walk through 
the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with 
me; thy rod and thy staff comfort me." Ps. 23:6.

The last one to answer the call, was Mr. Frank Delarue, Sr., who breathed 
his last on November 23, 1913, at 8:15 P. M. He lived to the ripe old age of 
81 years, 10 months and 15 days, and 15 days, and we are told that he had 
many friends and few enemies. He was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery 
to await the resurrection morn. Mr. Delarue was a Confederate veteran, 
having served all through the Civil war. He was sergeant of Fuller's 
Battery, St. Martin's Rangers; was wounded in an engagement with a gunboat 
at Brasher City.

The R. E. Lee Camp No. 14, U. C. V. and the Gordon Chapter, No. 1470, U. D. 
C., hereby express their sympathy to the bereaved family and friends of 
their deceased comrade, and hope that when their days on earth are over, 
they will meet their loved one around the throne of God.

Frank Delarue came to Opelousas in 1854 (St. Landry Clarion, March 2, 1907, 
pg. 1). He is buried in the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery located in 
Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, LA.
