October 10, 1908, page 1 NECROLOGICAL. Louis Desmarais, Jr., a life-long resident of this community, died at his residence here on Tuesday evening, aged 37 years. Deceased had been a sufferer from an incurable malady for several years and his family and friends knew that it was only a question of a short while before the end came, yet the announcement of his death was received with expressions of deep regret from every source. He was the only son of the late Louis Desmarais, a prominent Republican politician of this parish, and like his father, took an active interest in the affairs of his party in this portion of the State. He was postmaster here for several years and proved a most efficient and painstaking official. He engaged in the mercantile business at an early age, and was at the time of his death a member of the Lassalle & Dermarais Co. The deceased married Miss Alice Trainor of Washington and his wife and his little daughter survive him. He was a member in good standing of the Independent Order of Red Men, the members of which society attended his funeral in body. The obsequies were held from the Catholic Church on Wednesday evening, the large numbers attending testifying for fully to the fact that he was held in high esteem by the citizens of this community. We extend our condolences to the family in their bereavement.
