St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, La.) 1890-1921, June 17, 1899, Image 3
Died. - PREVOT - At the family residence in Opelousas, Saturday night,June 
10, at 8:20 o'clock, Marie Octavie Prevot, wife of Louis Desmarais, Sr.
The funeral cortege left the family residence Sunday evening at 5 o'clock, 
for the Catholic Church, where the funeral rites were solemnized.
The death of this esteemed lady came to the community as a shock, for it was 
barely known that she was ill ere Death claimed her.
Mrs. Desmarais' great kindness of heart, lovable disposition and industrious 
habits, won to her many warm friends, who are borned in grief at her sudden 
taking off.
She was appointed postmaster at this place by President McKinley, but on 
account of the present wrangle among Louisiana Republicans her appointment 
had not been confirmed.
To the bereaved family and friends, the Clarion extends its heartfelt 
sympathy.

Marie Octavie Prevot Desmarais is buried at the St. Landry Catholic Church 
cemetery in section 8 located in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.
