August 21, 1886, page 1 Died. - At his residence in Prairie Plaisance, on Sunday night, Aug. 15, at 10:30 o'clock, Mr. Lastie Dupre, aged ninety one years and four months. In the death of this venerable old citizen, St. Landry has lost one of her oldest and most conspienons landmarks that connected her history with a generation past and linked us with the palmy days of ante-bellum times. He was known far and wide as the wealthiest stock-raiser in the Attakapas region, and whose hospitality was commensurate with the large means at his disposal. His simple and regular habits, joined with an active, energetic life, gave him extraordinary health and strength, which prolonged his life far beyond the limits usually allotted to man. With his usual wise foresight, he had made a generous provision for his descendants in life, and had everything prepared to meet the summons of death. The son of ex-Gov. Jacques Dupre, one of the early settlers of St. Landry, he was connected with a long and honorable line of ancestry of Louisiana. He was buried at the Catholic Cemetery of Opelousas, on Monday evening, when an immense throng of relatives and friends met to pay their respects to the esteemed and honored old citizen. Peace to his ashes.
