Died, at the family residence, in Opelousas, on Thursday, February 10, 1898, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Barker, wife of George O. Elms, aged 49 years. The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the bereaved family of this estimable lady in the dark hour of their affliction. Sincere and heartfelt is the sympathy experienced for the family of children who are thus bereft of the sweet and tender influence of a mother's love. Mrs. Elms was a native of Washington, La., and her body was conveyed there for interment. For many years she had been a sufferer from a cancerous formation, and just as she was passing from a state of continual suffering to the relief which medical aid had afforded she was again stricken, and her weakened constitution being unable to stand the suffering, she succumbed, and her soul took its flight to the Elyslum where suffering and affliction are not known. Mrs. Elms was a charitable and Christian woman, and many who have felt the beneficence of her nature will join with her loved ones and mingle their tears and mourning.
