Saturday evening late a telegram was received conveying the doleful intelligence that J. Moore Garland had died that evening at six o'clock, at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, of pneumonia. Moore had been gone from Opelousas since about two months, going to that section in search of a place to establish himself in the practice of law, in which profession he had recently graduated. His illness was of short duration - before his parents and friends knew his danger he had crossed the dark river that flows at the foot of the hill of life. His body arrived here on the evening passenger train Tuesday, accompanied by a delegation of the local tribe of Red Men, who had gone to meet it. The funeral procession which followed the remains from the depot was a large one, evidencing the universal sorrow which his demise has occasioned in the community where he was born and had grown up to manhood. The cortege proceeded to the Episcopal Church, where the rites of that faith was solemnized; after which the Red Men took charge of their deceased brother who as a fleeting sunbeam had been called to bask in the smiles of the Great Spirit and performed over the bier the beautiful ceremony of that order. J. Moore Garland was not yet 26 years of age. He was a son of the late Chas. F. Garland, and a grandson of the venerable Henry L. Garland. The Clarion extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved ones.
