Miss Callie Goudchaux, aged 19 years, died at the residence of her father in Big Cane, in this parish, on Friday the 14 inst., after a lingering illness which she bore with great patience and fortitude. At a proper age she had been placed in Mrs. Hayes' female Institute in this place where she remained until her graduation. Her life while there, was all that could have been desired. Faithful and apt in her studies, - affable, kind and gentle in her manners, she won the admiration of her teachers and the attachment of all the inmates of the Institute. In all the rounds of the social circle in which she moved, no young lady was more admired. By her quiet and gentle demeanor, even when moving round in "pleasure's ring," all her actions served to illustrate the graces of female character, and to lend to society its highest taste. By her care-eluding art and by her faithful devotion to her father, she had become to him, the fairest of her sex, -the solace of his toils. Perhaps he had become even too idolarous, was why an inscrutable Providence dethroned and took her from him. In her early death society is made a great loser, whilst acquaintances, associates, friends, a fond father, and loving kindred, weep as they reflect and realize that her visible loveliness shall never more cheer and gladden their hearts. We tender our sympathies to all and particularly to those who most of all loved the departed one, and yet we know that, - "Tis impotent to grieve for what is past, And unavailing to exclaim." It must suffice for mortals to know that God does all things right and for the best. That the "fitful dream of life," will soon be over with all of us, and that we may be united on the Eternal shore where grief and sorrow cannot enter and a life of bliss be endless.
