Interment in Methodist cemetery Tuesday evening. Mr. Hockaday was one of the largest and wealthiest planters in Acadia parish. He came there from Kentucky about twenty years ago, and was one of the first planters of that parish to engage extensively in rice culture. He had means when he came to Acadia, and by thrift and good management increased his wealth until he had, at his death, more than a competence. He is the father of Mrs. Dr. Lawrence Daly, of Bellevue, and came there a few weeks ago, it may be said, to die, as he knew that he was afflicted with a disease (chronic heart trouble) which numbered his days on earth. So fully did he realize that the end was fast approaching that he gave directions as to the details of his funeral, and spoke of his approaching dissolution with firmness and resignation. He leaves a widow and two children (Mrs. Daly and Mr. Willie Hockaday) to mourn his death.
