King. DIED. - At his residence in Opelousas, at 9 o'clock a. m., Friday, April 30, 1897, Felix A. King, aged 79 years. For many years Major King has been an honored and respected landmark in the history of our town and parish, and though his term of life exceeded the three score and ten of man's allotted existence, and his declining years were burdened with decrepitude and infirmities, there are many of his old and life-long friends who survive him and feel keenly his demise. Long before the day of his death, blindness had robbed him of his chieftest pleasures, for in taking from him the power of observing nature and all the beauties with which it is invested it bereft him of the only consolation of his old age. Major King held, during his life, positions of trust in our community. He was for many years mayor of Opelousas and served as an attache of the Tax- Collector's office of this parish. He was a dutious and industrious employee and by dint of economy saved enough to support him in his later years. He was charitable and generous, and many are there in our town who were the beneficiaries of his generosity and can attest to his charity. His good deeds and honorable record will live when his body returns to ashes, and his name is forgotten.
