LASTRAPES. Died at his farm near town, on the evening of the 15th inst., the cortege leaving the residence of his nephew, Sidney L. Hebrard, Esq. on Tuesday the 17th. Mr. Lastrapes was aged 66 years and 9 months, and was a scion of an old and respected family of this parish. His daughters, Mrs. (Dr.) V. K. Iron and Mrs. (Dr.) Duson, came from their respective homes in New Orleans and Texas, to attend the funeral. In his youth it has been said by competent judges that poor Leonce was the handsomest man in Louisiana, and time and trouble had not fully effaced the lineaments of former beauty as he lay stretched on his last bed, let us hope in peace. His was a gentle nature, courteous, cultured and refined. Whatever faults he may have possessed were fully attoned for by years of despair and rayless hope. If his dumb mouth could speak, 'twould doubtless say: "But now the Arbitrator of despairs, Just death, kind umpire of man's miseries, With sweet enlargement doth dismisss me hence." And those of his life-long friends, who really liked the man and realized that he possessed a knightly heart could well exclaim: "Vex not his ghost: oh! let him pass! He hates him, that would upon the rock of this rough world Stretch him out longer." Peace to his ashes! The grave buries every error, covers every defect, extinguishes every resentment. From its peaceful bosom spring none but fond regrets and tender reccollections." Farewell! old friend, peace to your ashes.
