(Opelousas, La.) 1890-1921, January 18, 1919, Image 5 HENRY LASTRAPES PASSES BEYOND SPLENDID TYPE OF CITIZEN HAS GONE TO MEET REWARD IN THE GREAT BEYOND Henry Lastrapes, Sr., native of this parish and one of the best beloved men in our midst, joined the silent majority last Tuesday night at 8 o'clock, aged 80 years, 7 months and 6 days. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the family residence in this city, with services at the Catholic Church and interment in the Catholic cemetery. The death of this venerable and highly esteemed citizen came as a distinct shock to his large circle of friends and acquaintances, throughout the parish of St. Landry, who did not even know the serious illness which preceded his demise. While the deceased has been in delicate health for many years, his wonderful vitality and never ceasing energy enabled him to personally manage and superintend his large planting interests. He was a devoted agriculturist, and for more than half a century devoted his time and talent to that pursuit. Many of the share hands and laborers on his plantation have been there for many years, and his kindliness of heart and uniform courtesy won for him the fidelity and affection of all with whom he came in contact. Mr. Lastrapes married Miss Alicia Joubertie, and together they reared a large family. Those who survive are: Mrs. J. T. Dupre; Dr. W. R. Lastrapes; Mrs. Gus. E. Dupre; Mrs. Rosa Wilson; Hon. Henry Lastrapes Jr., clerk of court; Mrs. G. W. Stubbs; and Miss Malou Lastrapes. The deceased is also survived by his aged wife whose affectionate companionship and solicitude comforted and solaced him to the end. The remains were interred in the Catholic Cemetery and a large concourse of friends, relatives and acquaintances attended the funeral. The deceased has left as a heritage to his wife and children an unblemished name, an untarnished character; and, in his death the parish of St. Landry has lost an upright and honorable citizen; his wife a devoted and gentle husband; and his children an indulgent and affectionate father. Henry Lastrapes, Sr., has crossed the Great Divide, but his life and character will endure, and so will the memory of his charity, virtue and kindly disposition.
