INTERRED IN OPELOUSAS Was on Pleasure Trip With Five Companions, and Sank When Near the Shore - Mother ans Sisters in Opelousas. Blase Latiolais, aged 21 years, 6 months and 28 days, fell the victim of playful pranks of himself and five companions in Bayou des Cannes, near the Crowley oil field, last Sunday afternoon, and his body lies in a grave in the Catholic cemetery in Opelousas. The sad news was conveyed to the family by telephone message Sunday evening, and the hearts of the entire community at once went out to the grief stricken widow mother and orphan brothers and sisters, all of whom are held in the highest esteem in Opelousas. Blase left here a few months ago, and has been working in the oil field as a driller's assistant. Sunday afternoon, in company with five young men, boon friends of his, he went out on Bayou des Cannes on a gasoline launch for an outing. It appears that Latiolais and two of the young men got on top of the cabin of the launch, and their weight made the boat top-heavy and caused it to turn-turtle. All were precipitated in the stream. Two of the men could swim, and they at once set to work rescuing their imperilled companions. Blase went down clutching one of the boys who couldn't swim, and when they arose a swimmer caught the first who appeared above the surface of the water, and brought him to shore. Blase had managed to struggle until he had nearly reached shore, but as the one who had brought his companion to shore reached for him Blase sunk for the third and last time. The body was immediately recovered, but he could not be resusitated. He was dead. The body was brought to Crowley, where his uncle, Elias Deputy, lives, and the mother and brothers and sisters of the dead man in Opelousas at once notified. Accompanied by his two uncles, Elias Deputy, of Crowley, and Louis R. Deputy, of Jennings; his kinsman L. B. Chacheere, his brother, Gunning Latiolais, of Crowley, and Mr. Ed. Spencer, of Lake Charles, the remains arrived on the Opelousas, Gulf & Northeastern morning train Monday, and were interred in the Catholic cemetery at 5 o'clock, after solemnization of the funeral rites in the Catholic church. His mother, Mrs. F. C. Latiolais, nee Rose Deputy, and several brothers and sisters, survive the unfortunate boy.
