Young Ledoux was the first Opelousas boy to volunteer, doing so on the very day of declaration of war, joining the marine corps. After undergoing training he went to France and saw experience in some of the severe battles around Chateau Thierry, suffering wounds of severe character. After recovering he returned to duty and when he died he had just returned to this side and would have been home within a very short time. Influenza struck him and pneumonia developed and the young hero passed awya (sic) far from father, mother and other loved ones. The Clarion tenders its deepest sympathy to the bereaved parents, brothers and other relatives on the untimely death of their hero son and brother. Additional Comments: Joseph Bayhi Ledoux is buried in section 6 of the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery located in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. www.findagrave.com memorial # 104161124 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/stlandry/obits/l/ledoux5511gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
