March 29, 1884, page 1 DIED, - At the residence of her sister, Mrs. A. E. Millard, Grand Coteau, La., on the 20th inst., MISS MARY ELIZABETH LITTELL, aged 62 years and 7 months. The startling and sudden decease of this estimable lady, forcibly reminds us that, "in the midst of life we are in death." Leaving her home in Opelousas at 8 o'clock A. M. apparently in her usual health, she yielded her spirit to its Creator, the same day at 12 M. in the loving arms and at the domicil of her only surviving sister, with whom she intended spending a few social hours and return in the evening. Though unexpected and without premonition, came the dread summons, it did not find her unprepared, - for a life so stainless and exemplary, - so scrupuously modeled on the inspired word of God, - a heart ever animated by the spirit of Faith, Hope and Charity, - living from day to day, as it were, by "the bread of life," could not be taken unawares. She died, as she lived, in the grace of God. To him who offers this feeble tribute of love and respect to her cherished memory, and to the sorrowing hearts of the tender little ones, for whom she was not only a "dear auntie," but a second mother - to a loving and devoted sister - to her widowed brother in law and family - as well as to all others, who knew her real worth and truly loved her for her many endearing qualities - the parting is indeed most painful. In our yearning hearts, there will be ever remain an aching void. Yet though we mourn, we know that our loss is her gain. Then Adieu! Adieu! - May we meet thee, dear Bettie, on that beautiful shore, where sorrow is unknown and death is no more. God rest thy gentle spirit.
