Judge Barthelemy Amedee Martel died at his residence near Opelousas on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at 8:15 p. m., after a long and painful illness, which he bore with becoming fortitude and resignation. He was born March 8, 1819, and was consequently over 68 years of age. An immanse concourse of friends and relatives attended the funeral, which took place at the Catholic Church of Opelousas at a late hour on Thursday evening. The pall-bearers were Hon. M. E. Girard and Judge C. Debaillon, of Lafayette, and Hon. H. L. Garland and Dr. V. Boagni of Opelousas.
