James W. Moore, aged 59 years, 4 months and 10 days. His remains were laid to rest in the Protestant cemetery in Opelousas on Tuesday about 2 o'clock. The funeral cortege, which was very large, left the family residence at 12 o'clock. The train of carriages, buggies, horseback riders, etc., went to prive that an honored and beloved citizen was being followed to his last resting place. The funeral service was held in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Fauntleroy. Mr. Moore was a native of Attalah county, Mississippi, but in 1882 he with his family moved to Louisiana and settled on Bayou Boeuf, St. Landry parish, where he followed farming for several years, and in his line of business he was not to be excelled. While living on Bayou Boeuf he made numbers of friends who will be grieved to learn that ho (sic) is no more. About five years ago he moved to the present home, midway between Washington and Opelousas, where he has been planting cotton and corn and truck gardening for the Opelousas trade. In this last neighborhood he made friends who loved and honored him, and who now mourn for him, now that he will no longer be one among them. Besides these many friends everywhere who left behind to grieve for Mr. Moore, he leaves a devoted wife, two daughters, Mrs. Horace Andrus of Begg, La., and Mrs. Allen Daniels of near Crowley, La., and two stepsons, Mr. James McCain of Crowley, La., and Mr. Will Prud'homme of Opelousas. His illness was about two weeks duration, but not of an alarming nature until the last few days. He was medically attended by Dr. Bob Littell, who used his skill as a physician, but God saw best to call him home, hence no relief could be given; and on Christmas day, a time when all is gayety and pleasure, the pall of death entered this home and took from it the head and staff. His death bed was attended by his wife and oldest daughter, Mrs. Andrus; but Mrs. Daniels did not arrive until late that evening, and imagine the shock to hear her father was dead - a word that is of itself sad and depressing. Mr. Moore was a man of an exemplary character, true to his business, true to his friends and family, true to his religion and his God; and now he has gone to that celestial home that our blessed Savior Jesus went to prepare for us - a home for all who will trust in the Holy word and teachings. He was a member of the Baptist church and had been for at least twenty-five or thirty years, which had been a stay to him in the many trials that accompany life, and in this Christian bearing 't is no wonder that he sent goodbye to all of his friends. To the bereaved wife and daughters we extend our sympathy and love, assuring them that a tender chord in our hearts has been touched, and we mingle our tears with theirs. And to all other relatives we offer sympathy, for you can all have a hope that you will meet him again in the world beyond. Blessed hope, blessed assurance that we will never say goodbye in Heaven. A FRIEND. Garland, La., Dec. 26. Additional Comments: NOTE: James W.
