February 26, 1876, page 1 Death of Judge John J. Morgan. It is our painful duty to announce the sudden death of the Hon. John J. Morgan, judge of this District. Judge Morgan had been slightly indisposed for several days, but feeling better, had left his room. Last Tuesday evening he retired to bed as usual, but at about 11 o'clock at night was struck with an attack of paralysis; two hours after he was speechless, and at 11 o'clock the next day he expired. The death of Judge Morgan is a loss to the State, to the magistracy, to the bar, to his family, and to society of which he was an ornament. A patriotic citizen, upright and incorruptible officer, examplary husband, affectionate father, agreeable companion, he possessed all the good qualities which insure popularity end esteem. He leaves to mourn his loss a widow and four children, and a large circle of friends stricken in their tenderest affection. Additional Comments: Judge John Joseph Morgan is buried in the St. Landry Catholic Church cemetery in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, LA [Section 15]. findagrave memorial number 122011995 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/stlandry/obits/m/morgan5325gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/lafiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
