Funeral services were held at the Catholic church and interment in the Catholic cemetery Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, the remains being followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of relatives and friends of the deceased. Mr. Mornhinveg, was a native and life-long resident of Opelousas and was a Confederate veteran. he led an active life up to some seven or eight years ago when a fall from a stepladder caused a permanent injury to one of his lower limbs from which he never recovered. He had to use crutches always in getting about and this fact brought on a cessation of his activities. Once a familiar figure about Opelousas, owing to his crippled condition he was seldom seen about the streets, only coming up town in order to vote at election time or to witness the drawing of a jury by the commissioners, he being one of the official witness selected by the court. Mr. Mornhinveg was twice married, his first wife having died many years ago, his second wife being Miss Larcade, and she survives. To the first union four children were born, three of whom survive, namely, Mrs. Julia Veltin, who died about a years ago; Edward Mornhinveg and Henry Mornhinveg of this city and Frank Mornhinveg of Crowley. Four children also were born to the second marriage, namely, Mrs. Frances of Carencro, Mrs. Lorena Stagg of Crowley, Mrs. Bertha Lyons of Opelousas and Luther Mornhinveg of Bogalusa. these all survive. In addition there are a number of grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Remi Mornhinveg of Opelousas and John Mornhinveg of Sunset. The illness which took Mr. Mornhinveg from this world was a sudden paralytic stroke that occurred Tuesday night. The afternoon of that day he was apparently as well as usual, sitting on the front porch in the late evening as was his custom during clement weather. Unexpectedly and unlooked for, the Angel of Death, however, was hovering about the household and almost without warning extended it s silent hand and beckoned the loved husband, father and grandfather to take the silen (sic) ttrip (sic) with the Mystic Boatman over the River Styx. He rests in the peaceful shade on the other side, "where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary find rest." The deceased was of that quiet, unostentatious (sic) character that is the hallmark of the real good citizen of this nation. He asked not, neither did he look, for the glittering wealth, the gaudy habiliments, the empty applause of a hero-worshipping world, but was content to pursue his quiet way through life, doing that which was right and fair with mankind. It is his type of citizenship on which the real foundation of this nation is laid, and when one of the representatives of this class passes to the unknown sphere of action, humanity that looks to these rock-ribbed specimens of real Americanism as a guiding hand to lead the way, breathes a sigh of sorrow. We know not of the mystic world that lies beyond the silence of the grave, but we who knew Mr. Mornhinveg wel (sic) land admired his sterling qualities earnestly hope that in the peaceful shadow on the other shore he rests in contentment and eternal rest. For, after all, the poet says - "Death is but a grate of dreariness and gloom - That leads through azure skies to happy isles of eternal hope." A FRIEND.
