In the death of Christian Mornhinveg, Sr., our town loses its oldest and one of its very best citizens. He came here from Wurtemberg, Germany, about 1837, and raised a large family, Opelousas being, we believe, the birth place of all his sons and daughters. Mr. Mornhinveg leaves to his children and grand children the record of a spotless life, a life distinguished by industry, economy, temperance, perfect integrity and all the best domestic virtues. He reached an advanced age, and almost the entire community testified by their presence at his burial their appreciation of his worth and their sympathy with his aged wife and sorrowing children. Peace to his ashes.
