Mudd, aged thirty six years. To the announcement of this bereavement, so sad and overwhelming to the family and friends of the deceased, we desire to add the heartfelt tribute of esteem and friendship. Possessing in the highest degree, the affectionate devotedness of husband, father, brother and relative, he was also endowed with the warmest and most refined social feeling. Generous and sincere, upright and manly, yet modest and unpretending in his intercourse with every one, he never failed to win the good opinion of all with whom he came in contact. And, by far, not the least praise of his personal excellence, was the strong and unfeigned attachment and devotion of his slaves. Surely, death has robbed them of a kind, just and generous master. Patient and prayerful in his last sufferings; his meek resignation to the will of God and his tender solicitude for the wife and helpless 'little ones' who surrounded his death-bed, were a fitting sequel and a crowning glory to his honorable and well spent, though short career. May God, in his mercy give consolation to these and eternal beatitude to the spirit of the loved and lamented dead.
