J. Offutt died at Washington last Monday morning, aged 58 years. Dr. Offutt was a native of this parish and resided here all his life, except when in his country's service on the battle-field, being attached to the 8th Louisiana Infantry, Stonewall Jackson's corps, denominated, owing to the rapidity of its movements, "Jackson's foot cavalry." Himself a scion of noble stock, he was connected with some of the best families of this parish, and by his gentle and amiable disposition had endeared himself to a large circle of friends.
