Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com October 8, 2014, 1:15 pm St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, La.) November 30, 1907, pg. 5 Pierre J. Pavy. The news of the death of Pierre J. Pavy, which occurred in Crowley on last Sunday, November 24, 1907, at 11:15 a. m., was received in Opelousas, his old home, with genuine sadness. He was a magnificent man in character and sterling attributes, unostentatious and reserved, but with a heart responsive to noble impulses and purposes. He was such a man that death should shrink from striking down, for the world needs more like Pete Pavy. Deceased was the son of our esteemed twonsman, Judge Alfred Pavy, and brother of B. Henry Pavy and J. Raoul Pavy, prominent lawyers of the Opelousas bar, and of Dr. O. P. Pavy, of Leonville. He also has two brothers attending school at the Louisiana State University, and several sisters, and his mother also survives him. The body was brought from Crowley on the evening train of the Southern Pacific Monday, and interred in the Catholic cemetery. It was accompanied from Crowley by many friends and relatives, and the funeral cortege that awaited it here and followed it to its last resting place attested in silent eloquence the esteem and love in which he was held by the people of the town where he grew up to manhood. The Crowley Signal, of Crowley, pays the dead man the following tribute: "Pierre J. Pavy, who for many years has been a resident of Crowley, died at his residence in this city Sunday morning at 11:15 o'clock, after an illness of ten days. His remains were taken to Opelousas this morning over the Southern Pacific and funeral services held in the Catholic church in that city today at 12:30. A large number of relatives and friends of the deceased accompanied the funeral party." "It is no empty, perfunctory utterance to say that the community in which he had spent the years of his manhood can ill afford to lose a man like Pete Pavy. During the ten days of his last illness news from his bedside was sought eagerly by his neighbors and friends, and when the news of his death came it was received with universal regret. He was a clean hearted gentleman and a good citizen." "Pierre J. Pavy was born at Grand Coteau, St. Landry parish and at the time of his death was 34 years, 10 months and 18 days old. He was educated at St. Charles College and in 1888 removed to Opelousas, where he lived until 1904, when he came to Crowley. He was married to Miss Anna Hayes in 1903. His wife and two children survive him." "Deceased was formerly a member of the firm of Pavy & Terwilliger, abstractors. For some time he had been in charge of the records and abstracts in the office of W. W. Duson & Bro. He was well posted on land titles in the parish."
