Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com August 15, 2015, 10:21 pm The Opelousas Courier (Opelousas, La.) 1852-1910, May 02, 1874, Image 1 DIED - In this town, on the 28th ult., Mr. Baptiste Pefferkorn, aged 39 years. Deceased was buried in the Catholic Cemetery of our town, whither his remains were followed by the Odd Fellows, the three Companies of the Fire Department, and a large concourse of friends and acquaintances. HALL OF ST. LANDRY LODGE, No. 25, I. O. O. F. At a special meeting of the above Lodge, held April 29, 1874, the following preamble and resolutions were adopted: WHEREAS, it has pleased the Almighty Ruler of the Universe to withdraw from our midst our worthy and beloved brother, BAPTISTE PEFFERKORN; therefore be it Resolved, That in the loss of our departed brother, our Lodge has lost a true and faithful member, society a model citizen, and his bereaved wife a good and loving husband; Resolved, That the members of this Lodge be requested to wear the usual badge of mourning for the period of thirty days; Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be presented to the widow of our deceased brother, with the assurance of all our sympathies in this her sad affliction, and that another copy be sent to the papers of this town for publication. At a meeting of Opelousas Fire Company, No. 1, held at the Engine House on the 29th of April, 1874, the following preamble and resolutions were unanimously adopted: WHEREAS, it has pleased the Almighty God to call from our midst our beloved friend and fellow-member, BAPTISTE PEFFERKORN; therefore be it Resolved, that while we bow in humble submission to His decree, we feel that Opelousas Fire Company, No. 1, has lost a faithful and worthy member, and the community a most valuable citizen; Resolved, That we sympathize deeply with the family of deceased in their bereavement.
