There died in this city on Tuesday evening at five o'clock, George Pulford, Sr., aged 86 years, 2 months and 28 days. He was one of our oldest inhabitants. Up to quite recently, he was in the enjoyment of splendid health. It is only a short while ago, the writer conversed with him. I had known him all my life. He had been my father's friend, was my friend. I had attended school with his son George over thirty-eight years ago, where we formed a friendship that has ripened as the years have gone by. George Pulford, Sr., came to this country from England many years ago. He married a Miss Christman, and from this union were born three sons and three daughters. A number of grandchildren survive him. He was an upright citizen, plain spoken and with strong convictions. He was several times called upon by his fellow citizens to serve them, which he did in the town Council and House of Representatives, having been elected to that body in 1892, during the great lottery fight. In serving his people, he had an eye single to the public good. In recent years he had quit work. His pleasure was to work in his garden and live quietly. He never forgot his duties as a citizen. He could always be counted to go to the polls and vote - according to his convictions. He lived a long, a useful and upright life. An example to his children and grandchildren. They can point to his long, his useful career and truthfully say: "His life was gentle, and the elements So mixed in him, that Nature might stand up And say to all the world, "This was a man." X. X.
