It is our painful duty to record the death of one of the very best c tizens (sic) of St. Landry. Francois Robin was a native of this parish. His entire life has been characterized by urbanity in manners, integrity in his dealings and serenity of temper. In the days of his vigorous life - 1856 - he was elected by his people to represent them in the popular branch of the State Legislature. There, as elsewhere, he did his duty in a fearless and honorable manner, and it he was not continued in public life, it was because he preferred the quiet pursuits of domestic, to the hurly-burly of public life. He loved the people among whom he had been born and raised, and appreciating the excellence of his attributes they loved and respected him. In setting out on the journey of her admirable life, he wooed and won and wedded Miss Eleonor Stelly, a lady whose qualities of head and heart, shone conspicuously in all circles and served to convert his home into a happy retreat from the trials and turmoils, sometimes attending the marital relations of others. For many long and eventful years, they journeyed on together, "two souls with but a single thought, two hearts that beat as one." No vicissitudes disturbed their harmony and unity, and happiness crowned their lives. A family resulted from their union, and the offspring reflected the excellence that adorned their lives. The wife passed away only fifteen days before he closed his eyes on the world, and both sank to rest, as the sun goes down in a cloudless sky - sending the myriad rays of their happy, honorable lives - in floods of benediction upon thein (sic) bereaved offspring. and lamenting neighbors, friends and acquaintances. He lived to the age of eighty-two years, and every year of his life, from the beginning of manhood, was a chapter of usefulness, good example, morality, integrity and honor. He loved retirement, the comforts of domestic life, and the ethereal calm that knows of no storms. Every guest, whether friend or stranger, found a cheerful welcome under his roof, while with him. He lived and died on the spot his infancy first knew, and the history of his life is but a record of blameless deeds and christian serenity. E. N. C.
