Saizan, aged 66 years and 3 months. The deceased finally found rest in the peaceful embrace of death after many months struggle and suffering with an incurable disease. About 12 months since he had a stroke of paralysis, followed by several other attacks recurring at intervals since that time, the effect of which was to break down his iron constitution and slowly but surely bring him to "that bourne from whence no traveller e'er returns." He was a strong man mentally as well as physically and by his force of character, energy and integrity was eminently successful in business, always holding the most influential positions among the people of his portion of the parish. For many years past he followed the business of a merchant, planter and also that of receiver and forwarder of freight at Porte Barre, and now that his long career is ended he leaves behind him a record of stainless honesty and fair dealing with his fellowmen of which his children may well be proud. The severe ordeal of his long illness seemed to soften whatever of asperity there may have been in his disposition and manner, and he became gentle as a little child to all, dovoting himself constantly to prayer and humble supplication to his Maker for that forgiveness of which we all in common stand in need. During his long illness he had all the loving attention which a devoted wife and children could bestow, and all the aid and relief which could be given by the medical art, through his son Dr. J. P. Saizan, who ministered to his sufferings tenderly and unremittingly. The one sentiment of the long concourse of friends and neighbors who followed him to his last resting place was: Peace to his soul!
