The Lafayette Advertiser, Vermilionville, Louisiana, Saturday, January 12, 1878
The last number of the Opelousas Courier came to us in mourning for the death of
Joel H. Sandoz, Esq., one of the founders of that paper and the father of the
present editors. The sad event took place on the 4th inst., after several months
of painful illness, in the 61st year of his age. The deceased was a resident of
this State since his boyhood, being a native of Switzerland, and was a citizen
of Opelousas for thirty-five years. He was a good man, true and faithful in all
the relations of life, and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends.
