SANDOZ Died, at New Iberia, La., on Monday, December 9, 1919, Gordon Adolphus Sandoz, aged forty years, one month and twenty days. Taken ill but a few days before, bronchial pneumonia developed and despite the best medical care and the devoted ministrations of wife and sisters, he yielded to the dread malady. The funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church, the remains being interred in the cemetery at New Iberia. Deceased was the third son of the late Louis Adolph Sandoz and Lelia Gil, having been born at Opelousas on October 19, 1878. He was educated here, but pursued his legal studies principally at Houma and New Iberia, having been admitted to the practice of the law by the supreme court of Louisiana in 1906, when he began his career as an attorney with the firm of Burke and Burke, prominent lawyers of New Iberia. By hard work and due to his fine personality, he had succeeded in his profession and had a large circle of friends. He stood high among the members of the bar of his district and held the esteem and confidence of every court in which it was his privilege to appear. He was married just ten years ago to Mrs. Sylvia Decuir-Suberbielle and four children, all girls, were born of that union. Of gentle and affectionate disposition, he was unusually devoted to his family and his demise after so brief an illness and in the prime of manhood is very distressing. Born and reared in this community he was well known, and it is a source of regret to many friends and relatives here that the funeral occurred so soon after announcement of his death as to make it almost impracticable to attend. The deceased is survived by a number of relatives besides his wife and children, including W. J. Sandoz, Mrs. George Wright , and Misses Gertrude and Lelia Sandoz of this city, Dr. L. Stuart Sandoz of Houma; Dr. (Lieut.) George Ellis Sandoz, now on duty in France; and Hilton Sandoz of Denver, brothers and sisters. The Clarion feels deeply the untimely death of Gordon Sandoz, for we knew him well and long ago recognized his many splendid qualities. We feel that we are saying very little when we extend to his grief-stricken wife and children and his brothers and sisters our deepest condolences, for we know they one and all lost a devoted husband, father and brother when Gordon Sandoz closed his mortal eyes in the long, last sleep. Peace to his ashes! Additional Comments: NOTE: Gordon Adolphus Sandoz is buried at Saint Peters Cemetery, New Iberia, Iberia Parish, LA.
