SIMON DIED YESTERDAY PROMINENT ST. LANDRIAN PASSES AT RIPE AGE OF NEARLY SEVENTY-EIGHT YEARS Judge Arthur Simon, lawyer and soldier in the Confederate army, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Chas. L. Voorhies, in this city yesterday (Friday) morning at 1:35 o'clock, aged 77 years, 11 months and 6 days. The funeral was held the same afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, with services and interment in the Catholic church and cemetery. The deceased was a member and commander of R. E. Lee Camp No. 14, United Confederate Veterans, and the organization attended the funeral in a body. Judge Simon was a native of New Orelans (sic) and during the civil war was major of the eighteenth Louisiana regiment. He moved to St. Landry parish in 1874 and engaged in farming. In 1882 he moved to Opelousas and pracitced (sic) law, and later was elected justice of the peace in the first ward and served in that capacity for about twenty years. His wife preceded him to the grave by many years and all his children are grown. His children are Mrs. Chas. L. Voorhies of Opelousas; Mrs. John T. Rutledge of Cincinnati, Ohio; and Leopold Simon of Opelousas.
