DIED - At his residence in Big Cane, on wednesday, Jan. 12, 1881, John J. Smith, aged 38 years. WHEREAS, it has pleased the Grand Master of the Universe to remove from us our beloved Brother John J. Smith; Resolved, 1st. That in his death Orphan's Friend Lodge has lost a worthy and honored member, and the community a genial and esteemed citizens; 2d. That we tender our heartfelt sympathy to his bereaved family; 3d. That in token of respect the members of the Lodge wear the usual badge of mourning thirty days; 4th. That these resolutions be published in the Opelousas Courier, and that a copy be forwarded to the widow of our deceased Brother, Committee, A. A. Hebert, A. Kahn, C.
