Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com April 15, 2014, 9:56 am St. Landry Clarion (Opelousas, LA) Aug. 18, 1906, pg. 3 Mrs. Laure Latour, widow of the late Louis Stagg, died at Eunice, La., on Tuesday night, August 7, 1906, at 8 o'clock, aged 65 years, 5 months and 26 days. The remains were brought to Opelousas on the train Wednesday evening, and the funeral services held at the Catholic Church immediately upon the arrival of the train, after which they were interred in the Catholic cemetery. The death of this much-esteemed lady removes from the homes of a large and influential family one of their precious ancestors- one to whom Hawthorne's epigram that "Once in every half century, at the longest, a family should forget all about its ancestors," has no application, for she was ever dear to them; and now that she is in the grave, her memory liveth in their hearts. She died after a short illness, and in spite of the most skillful medical attention and careful nursing. She leaves seven children, all in full manhood and womanhood, to mourn her death. They are Mr. A. Laurent Stagg, of Opelousas; Dr. J. J. Stagg, of Eunice; Dr. Marcellus Stagg, of Rayne; Mrs. Robert Lafleur, M. D. Lewis and Widow Will Parrott, of Eunice, and Mrs. J. E. Bacon, of Whiteville. The Clarion extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family.
