Alex St. Cyr, Sr., a well known farmer of the Bayou Teche country, a few miles out of this city, died on last Monday evening and was burried (sic) in Opelousas in the Catholic cemetery at four o'clock Tuesday evening. A large number of friends and relatives gathered around the tomb to pay their last tribute to one of the many who went forth in the bright of youth to fight for their country's right. Mr. St. Cyr was born on Oct. 1, 1834 at Waterloo, Pointe Coupee parish, a town which was situated on the Mississippi river, but which was wiped out sometime after the war, when the levee caved in. When the Civil war broke out he enlisted as a private, remaining one year in Captain Pratt's camp of instruction, after which he joined Geo. W. Hudspeth's Company K Seventh Louisiana Calvary, Col. Bringier, Brent's Brigade, General Walker's Division. Private St. Cyr remained in the army until after the war broke out, when he returned to his home and finally settled to his home and finally settled in this section of the state. The deceased leaves four sons and five daughters besides one brother, Mr. Alcide St. Cyr, of this city, and one sister, Mrs. Alexandre Legrenge, of Plaquemine Ridge, forty-four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. His sons and daughters are Albert, Walter, David and Antoine St. Cyr, Mrs. Albert Kerr, of Washington, Mrs. Tillismar Carrier, Port Barre, Mrs. Eunice Rider, Mrs. Elodie St. Cyr and Miss Emily St. Cyr.
